As an ex-railwayman, I could happily share stories which the HSE would have a field day with! Trains being delayed for 90 minutes in the platform as the traincrew were in the pub, shunt engines being derailed as the shunter had spent 6 hours in the pub before coming to work.
Nowadays, if you have a sniff of alcohol on you, you are taken off duty and Mediscreen (or a similar type of company are called) and you face instant dismissal.
Don't..... I could tell you a tale or two as well... Different world then...

I worked as a drayman for brewery deliveries and seemingly back in the day one of the drivers got pulled over by the police down Stranraer way for veering all over the road. He fell out the lorry to meet the officer. He was poured back into the drivers seat then escorted home to Alloa.

I heard more similar stories while I worked there. Every pub just about gave you a wee " perk of the job " for humphing the kegs so on a big run like the Stranraer run they soon added up. 15-20 drops and a pint at each pub is a hell of a lot of beer. I took my " perks " in can form to enjoy at home. My fridge was packed in those days.

I wouldn't drive even if I'd only had half a bottle of beer. It's still alcohol in your system.

very much so. If we were on a late shift at work (2-10ish), and we went down the pub on our break, the first man you'd see would be yer boss/supervisor and the first thing he'd do would be to buy you a drink.

Why the 21 age limit though Gabe??

I can understand zero tolerance as everyone handles alcohol intake differently, but what difference would raising the legal drinking age to 21 do?
apart from encourage more youngsters to drink illegally.

to be fair Gabe, that happens at any age.
21, 31, 41, 51 or even 61.
You go in to Wolverhampton or any large city on a Friday/Saturday night and you'll always get people of all ages who drink too much, and I wouldn't say it's people under 21 as most of them can't afford to drink that much. It's the older ones who've got a bit of money and like to 'piss it up the wall' that cause the problems.

dont drink and drive... not even one... whats the point in having one anyway.... drink or drive.... when i drink i usually get hammered.. i dont get this one drink thing at all.... im not an alco either by the way... dont drink a lot in fairness... i used to drive a lorry.. and was at a funeral on a sunday... went for drinks after and got totally wasted... got up for work next day... felt sober till i started to drive... i swore never again... my life is my life i dont have the right to endanger anyone elses... and driving a truck while not completely in control is maddness.... and completely selfish...
