If I'm out for a meal or meeting up with mates and driving, I'll have 1 pint at the beginning of the nite and then straight on to the J20, but have always left it about 2 hours even after 1 pint, before getting behind the wheel.
Quite happy not drinking though and just sitting chatting with a J20, and Alex and I normally take in in turns to drive when we go out anyway.

Always have coke if I'm driving. The car is much more fun than the beer so it's no real hardship!

I couldn't live with myself if I had an accident and hurt someone, even if it wasn't strictly due to drink, if I'd had one you could always ask yourself "what if" you hadn't bothered with that one.......
coke is illegal to you know...!!!!! you might crash while you are snorting it..!!!!

NO....thats all im saying...no need..get a bus..

I'd have a pint or even a shandy if it was the start of the evening and I was sure I was going to be there for a least a couple of hours. Never anymore and after that just soft drinks

Not worth the risk, Diet coke all night then if you want to put you foot down the only thing that you will loose is 3 points for speeding.

Simples, I drive to the meal out or night out with Lynn, drink what I like and get Lynn to drive home after she's been on the j2o's all night..

If I have to drive its 1/2 pint shandy at start of meal then the J2O's at most, though normally just J2o's. The way I drive I need to be 100% alert. And as I weigh 102Kg, 1/2 of shandy not a problem.

You'll all hate me for this but I used to. Big time. In the late eighties and up to a particular date in 1990. We all used to do it. Car surfing whilst ten pints up, 'right what rave are we off to', jump in the car without a care in the world. Our parents used to also. Saturday night out in the Countryside was murder, literally. Then one Christmas Eve in 1990, after a 10 pinter at lunchtime, a mate dropped me off back at home, about three miles from the pub. Good job really as I was having trouble standing up. Mum and Dad were out which, in hindsight what I am about to tell would never have happened. I was seeing a Girl in Manchester at the time and I also had a Company car, which, which parked in the car park of the pub we had just exited. So I was bored and wanted to call her, no mobiles so it was plain old land line stuff. BUT her number was in my filofax in the Escort back at the pub. Simple I thought take the freshly restored ( 5.5k ) MGB GT and get her number. Apparently, according to a neighbour it took me half an hour to get into the car, but I was on a high. I never actually made the pub, a nasty little greasy left hander of a country lane put pay to that. Apparently according to source the car barrel rolled three times ending on it's roof and then burst into flames. I can remember it all clear as day as you sober up very quickly, well you think you do. My legs were quite badly burned ( fine now all hairy again) and I had lacerations to my arms and face and a gashed ear. I won't go into the details of what happened after that moment for fear of incrimination but things went my way. Later on, when sitting in the car, the roof had gone over so far my head and upper torso were clean out of the car.
The funny thing is, I have never ever done it since and neither will I.

Going back 15-20 years, it was almost acceptable to drink and drive.
I used to work on the railway, and one of my jobs was train crew rostering which was a round the clock job. I often copped for the night shift and the amount of train drivers that would go to the pub for 4 or 5 pints before booking on for work was alarming, but back then, it was common practice and as long as you could stand up, you could drive a train!
As an ex-railwayman, I could happily share stories which the HSE would have a field day with! Trains being delayed for 90 minutes in the platform as the traincrew were in the pub, shunt engines being derailed as the shunter had spent 6 hours in the pub before coming to work.
Nowadays, if you have a sniff of alcohol on you, you are taken off duty and Mediscreen (or a similar type of company are called) and you face instant dismissal.

Shit Rich that was serious and very lucky, personally i've never done it not once. Passed my test in 88, and it was without a doubt, the best day of my life, to that point. I cherished that license, and there was no way i was going to risk it due to beer.

Trouble was in those days Darren I thought I was invincible. Only lived for the next beer and Girl. Looking back they were great times so much fun and laughs, but incredibly stupid, foolhardy and irresponsible. And I have never ever even had a drag of a cigarette either.

I've been stupid when younger and driven when I know I've had too much. I know theres no excuse for it and I've never tried to excuse it.
I think later on in life you see things differently. Yous see the consequences not just for yourself but for others too, potential innocent victims of your reckless behaviour.
I'm on the verge of losing my licence not due to anything like dd, but due to poor health. I'm having a sleep test next week as the gp and consultant both think i'm suffering from sleep apnea.
The thought of even temporarily having to do without driving has really got me down, but if I was to lose my licence as a result of my stupid actions such as dd or driving when i'm likely to fall asleep at the wheel, that would make me feel my life wasn't worth living.
