Default Having a drink......having a drive...

Whats our views on having a drink (alcoholic) and driving afterwards?
Whats an acceptable/unacceptable amount to drink and drive?
Its probably something that most of us have done in the past but has growing older / life experiences changed our thinking in any way?
If you were caught dd would you try to justify your actions by saying 'I was only just over' or 'I was only moving the car off the road to my driveway' etc
Would new more strict laws governing the sale of alcohol help cut down the number of dd's?

Your comments please.

Zero. Have never drink driven.

I see it like this for myself at any rate.
Although i would likely be ok to drive with even a modest amount of alcohol in my system, i do know that it affects me in ways that arent of any benefit to the act of driving a car.
Dulled senses, slowed reactions and impaired decision making are a definite result.

Drivings hard enough and fraught with quite enough dangers to further increase them to yourself but most importantly others.
Killing oneself through the utter idiocy of driving with alcohol or drugs is one thing, killing someone else is simply unforgiveable, especially when its absolutely avoidable.

I used to indulge in a drink on a night when i was going to be in ( southern comforts and cokes...yum) but 4 years ago i just decided to leave it alone, havent had even a drop since...just dont see the point of it anymore.
Besides i could be out in the garage freezing my nuts off working on the car...who'd want to be in the warm half kaylied when you could be doing that eh?

Ok....Here is the knowledge guys......In answer to the question.....There isnt one

The drink driving limit is:

35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; or
80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood; or
107 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine.

The limit cannot be safely converted into a certain number of units, as it depends on a number of factors to include gender, body mass and how quickly your body absorbs alcohol into the blood stream.

It takes one hour for a healthy liver to process one unit of alcohol. However, it does depend on your body mass, gender and how much food you have consumed. Also even if you feel fine after having a skin full on an evening, there is still a high possibility that you will be above the legal limit should you drive the following morning.

A unit of alcohol is measured by its size (ml) and strength (% alcohol by volume or ABV) of the drink.
One unit of alcohol is 10ml (1cl) by volume or 8g by weight, of pure alcohol.......Imagine the barmans face when you get your scales out to weigh your drink to make sure you are getting the right amount!!!!

A Pint of Beer is 2 Units, Large Wine just over 2 and a Spirit, one shot, is 1 Unit. Minimum Ban is 12 months...

You dont have to be driving, just in the car with the keys is enough, even if you are fast asleep, you could be nicked and face a court appearance for being in charge, then you have to show that you have no intention of driving....Not Good.

In my expierence, it wont matter what the limit is reduced to, the hardened drink driver always thinks he/she wont be caught, so the legislation has no effect on their consumption.

So in short....Its a guessing game, everytime you drink a few and drive....Emjays advice is spot on.

Totally agree here. I wouldn't at all.
Always have coke if I'm driving. The car is much more fun than the beer so it's no real hardship!

I couldn't live with myself if I had an accident and hurt someone, even if it wasn't strictly due to drink, if I'd had one you could always ask yourself "what if" you hadn't bothered with that one.......

HAHAHA I THINK THE LAW NEEDS ADJUSTING A TAD!

i got banned for 12month, after id been to bed for 6 hours! not had a heavy night didnt see last orders but been out most of the day, got up at 5am to be at work for 6am,
got pulled at 5.30am wait for it, not because of speeding/ or because my driving was impaired or the fact my car wasnt road legal but because i had a baseball cap on and was driving a car at 5.30 on a sunday morning. genuine he told me that was the only reason! breath said i was 39mg so the head officer at the station sugested i opt for blood being sunday theyd have to call a dr out could be an hour before he arrived so i went for that, when blood tests came thru i had 82mg in 100mg of blood legal limit 80mg!! doh doh i was sober as ever
