Can anyone suggest any way for me to get more power out of my DS engined 80 GL?
So far all I've done is replaced the middle box with a straight pipe and fitted a Weber DTML 32/34 Any suggestions/rough prices for mods would be greatly appreciated ![]() Cheers |

Free flow air filter- always go for the biggest element you can, itll have less restriction than a smaller one.
Get it tuned up, its also possible to gain a little extra here and there by optimising the cam timing. Ensure the plugs are the right ones and correctly gapped. Ignition system in the best possible condition and timed correctly will pay off in terms of power and economy. After that youre into machinework and wallet pain. ![]() |

cool I've heard that early mk2 8v golf gti cams give a good gain properly set up too or would I be wasting time/money?

Depends on whether or not its a properly tested modification.
Too many are "butt" dynoed where they think theres a gain. Far better to speak to a cam manufacturer with your intentions and let them come back with a cam spec thatll work rather than just taking a chance on something like that. ![]() |

Do you mean setting the timing right with a strobe light??? Or playing about with it on a rolling road until the power is maximum? (presumably rotating the distributor) Steve |

Sorry Pimp, i meant rolling road tune up.
Involves adjusting fuelling, ignition and cam timings for best power and generally ensuring everything is correctly functioning like plug leads, dizzy cap, injections carbs fuel pressure etc. |

Thanks guy's I think I'll take it up to Boggy's after payday for a rolling road session, probably best to see what I'm starting out with so I'll notice gains.

I don't know does B2's DZ have hydraulic tappets, B3's DZ uses the same head as SD and 3A, so again, nothing special. |

engine swaps not an option unfortunately, just wanted to spend a few quid to make the DS more pokey as I've got a side project with the real power
