One of the mechanics where I work emission tuned my 80 Sport, he took the emission readings, hydrocarbons etc and then adjusted the fueling and timing accordingly. He told me this is how K-Jets are tuned, and because he has done this before he knew exactly what he was doing.
Anyway he did that yesterday, I changed the spark plugs todays just for good measure. Running triple core Bosch plugs and the car is flying! I never expected the car to be so responsive and rev happy, really pulls well through the gears now. This emission tuning has really put an edge on the performance cannot believe the difference! I would totally reconmend every K-Jet owner to get this done, if you feel your engine feels a bit sluggish etc. |

Fact that engine without correct timing and mixture doesn't run as well as one with correct settings is something new?
Maybe MOT doesn't check emissions so u can run your B2 with totally wrong fuel amount? ![]() P.S. Did he checked control pressure? Warm up regulator doesn't work correctly with age... |

He checked my blood pressure, which seems to be healthy. If that helps.

20vcqdriver, Thanks for that, and the quick reply, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.
What I'm trying to do is to give my 200 turbo the advantages of modern electronically controlled fuelling while still keeping it as original as possible. The fact that such a device as the K star did exist goes to prove that this is possible, after all the frequency valve on the early KE systems is nothing more than an EFI injector with pipes attached. Audi used to list an ECU for "KG engines with retro fitted lambda control" I would imagine it's NLA now though. IIRC I read somewhere that contrary to popular belief the Hitachi MAC..... series ECU's can be chipped, after all like most others they contain 2 main chips, a processor and a memory chip The MAC 05 A in my car does have the tracks on the pcb for the lambda sensor, frequency valve, and N75 boost solenoid, but no components soldered into these locations. Does anyone know more about these old ECU's???????? Also my fuel distributor has a weird part No 5170/18487E this is on a Bosch plate but is obviously neither a Bosch nor Audi part number, and no one from either Bosch or Audi seems to know what it is Anyone got any ideas??????Thanks Peter |
