Anyone out there know the correct part number for an A4 1996 (November) Ignition switch contact block. wifes car ignition switch no longer returns on its own after turning to the start position and needs manually turning back to ignition position. Thanks
Think I heard they changed during 97 year or thereabouts so need to be sure I get correct spare from GSF.

i've got the same problem with my other halfs A4 it may not be the switch it may be the ignition barrel
which means a new barrel and key which has to be reprogramed to the car so not a cheap job it was a recall but Audi have now stopped it, you're looking at £90+vat then someone to programe the key

You need to get the number off the old switch. I had the same problem last year and bought a genuine switch from TPS, trade parts specialist http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/

The switch is the most common thing, fits on the end of the barrel.
Steering wheel off, couling then the switch. My wipers were first, they stopped unless the key was turned back slightly, towards off, after starting. |

i found nothing worked utill i turned the key back,i was told i need a barrel and key,if it's just the switch
that'll save alot of money

The spring is inside the switch, with the contacts, (sealed) so if the key will not spring back once started, its the switch. The barrel is a dumb item which just operates the lock, turning the switch, by the end of the barrel which gives the resistance.
On mine the switch had split open. |

So no definite part number for a 96 A4 then. Will try and take the cowling off at the weekend...
