Default Return of the 5 cylinder!

I was doing a little browsing earlier and I came across:

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/a...-rs-2009-03-03

The new Audi TT-RS, more importantly audi are re-introducing the 5 cylinder engine! It looks like an impressive one at that with 340bhp!

This can only mean good things for us current 5 cylinder owners, I see a boom in interest coming!

I can see transplants looming as city types and footballers wives who can't drive, put them in to walls and suddenly we have a nice 5 pot lump that needs a new home!!

Yes, Should be interesting the Titty aRSe.
Still not yet 100% sure that it's a proper in-line 5 cyl yet though.
They say that it's half the RS6 engine, but is it?! Hope so, and not some V5 re-hash.

It is a proper staright 5. America have had it for ages now in their Jetta, although with no where near that power. Its a chain driven 2.5 20v with FSi fuel system and so really high compression ratio! It is a basic redesign of the 5.0V10 engine in the Gallardo (obviously non turbo but same engine) and the RS6, not the 5.2 that they put in the S6/S8.
Shopuld be a brilliant engine and I'm excited as they will have huge tuning potential. Times like this I love my job!
It's reported to sound like a uR and go like stink..... it'd be nice in my 90 hmmmmm

5 cylinders rule!
Hope the engine is as characterful as the old ones. Thats what most new engines are lacking.
