As the title suggests, the problem is at the start of the day, its my father in law's g reg 2.2 coupe quattro, and it chews on for ages before it will start.
It is starting to flatten the battery before it will start. when it is warm it is better. he thinks the cold start valve is at fault, and has taken it out and cleaned it up, but it is just as bad. What else would you suggest he could try, as its getting tiresome! I remember something similar happening with my old 90 years ago, but i got rid of it before it was bad enough to need sorting out. Any advice appreciated. Cheers. |

It's a pain in the arse for the likes of the UK climate... All of ours are disconnected. Hopefully that might help prevent flooding it....

yes as above and also try spraying wd 40 at the injectors and see if the enging pics up if it does its the injector o ring seals letting in air and mucking up the mixture.

Cheers for that, i've told him, and he is going to try it in the morning!
Any reason why the CS Injector doesn't actually work as its intended? Is it an age thing, or is it just poorly designed? |

In really cold climates it works well, giving the initial combustion to run, in hot climates it recognises the ambient heat and closes. But in the UK, where we suffer a true temperate climate, it errs on the side of caution and gives a slug of fuel on coldish, dampish mornings... This is too much for the cold chambers and floods the spark into submission... Shortly followed by flooding the whole chamber with unburnt mixture. If it's minus 6 outside, with a yard of frost on the roof, I bet it starts okay... (assuming it's the cold start injector at fault). With it disconnected, in really cold weather, pick up the throttle slightly. Set up correctly, the car should start without touching the throttle pedal.
