Default Audi coupe S2 temperature guage

My S2 has had an intermittent problem with the temperature guage going dead for a while, I fitted a new guage and sender but the problem still kept cropping up. In the end I found that it was the 4 pin connector that fits onto the sender unit in the engine bay that was at fault. the connections are a bit pathetic even when new so i soldered some tails onto the sender and put my own spade connectors on. its never failed since. (over a year now) ive heard of people having exactly the same problems on cabriolets and other later Audis. I hope that this info may help somebody. Darron.

Do you mean the centre console gauge or the dash one?

Had a similar issue ( well kind of ) problem with my 90 quattro 20v sport where by the speedo would just stop working then go mad all round the dial. Turned out it was the heat sink attached to the fire wall. Changed that and it was fine.....then the computer 'quartz' blew so I obtained a new dash.

Ours does the same... Given up looking at it...

I believe it's the sensor on the block that's breaking down... But the old girl's flying at the moment so, if it ain't broke... I sure ain't going'to upset it....
