When I went to the tasting in 2007 I pronounced it A-shen-to-shon. I was roundly corrected. It's "OCK-en-tosh-en" .Oh well, I don't mind being the new guy.

Added an Irish one to the collection today. Lockes 8yr old Single Malt.
Found a very nice shop in Stratford called Vinology that has a large selection of single malts and also offered tasting as well.

I used to think so, but I had only ever had Teachers or Bells or other blended stuff.

I have sampled decent stuff (Laphroaig???) and it is a complex drink. I might buy a bottle, purely for sampling!!!

Laphroaig is serious stuff. My brother enjoys it. Too peaty and a little medicinal for me. I like the smokiness, so I'll sip Bowmore Darkest or Bruichladdich 3D (1st ed. sold out)sometimes.

Taste it, buy what you like, share.

Friday afternoon, before dinner tipple. Redbreast 12 yr. Irish Whisky.
Very tasty, lots of sweet subtleties, and reasonably priced.

If anyone there sees the 15 yr variety for sale in the UK I'm curious to know how much for a 5th. Technically this vintage is not available in the US.

this eve ive finished my bottle of glengoyne 10 year old, tis a very nice single malt indeed!!
http://www.glengoyne.com/single_malt..._whisky_range/

and the next bottle i shall finish is a Glenlivet 12 year old
http://www.theglenlivet.com/12yearold/

unfortunatly before the gf left for her travels she developed a bit of a wiskey thing so has left me with loads of 1/4 left bottles to finish

I have not tried Glegoyne 10 yr. I imagine its very different from Glenlivet. Southern Highland vs. Speyside. I'm told the Glengoyne utilizes no peat in the process, resulting in a clean flavor.

Thoughts?
