i pulled some kind of sensor out of the top of the inlet manifold, a round one held in with 2 allen bolts. it's a green dash actulaay, is there any kind of fault codes on this or like old astras when you connect some rubbish with a paper clip then read the flashes on a light? seemed like it was only happening in 2nd when i last tried it, strange i thought!

This 4000 rpm bit still leans toward the air inlet temp sender, but i'd be interested to know what the boost level is when it happens. If the ecu see's too much it will cut the fuel pump, but, tbh when this happens you think the engine has fallen out, not just a misfire !

Ha ha! doesn't seem that bad!
was thinking that maybe the air temp sender could be buggered, or is this unlikely?
cheers,
Andy

what colour were the wires behind the glovebox? mine did a similar thing where the fuel pressure regulator on the block was fecked. this over fuelled the engine and made it misfire. try that.
