Yes each to their own, but I understand why you made that decision. Changing suspension components can result in lengthy ABS fault-finding after reassembly. And it is something else to go wrong which because it's too early to have plug-in diagnostic ability, can cost in terms of labour finding the problem.
Yes, ABS was very rare on CQs, not many people took up the £1200 option back then as it was a lot of money to spend. |

I have 2 87 CQ's one with ABS and leccy mirrors and the other non ABS and manual windows.
ABS was a high price option back in the day, it is quite a rare option in the great scheme of things, although them seem to appear on the 87 and 88 cars more often than other years though. |

My Coupe range brochure says all quattro models get ABS as standard for the 1988 model year, (which started 1 Aug 87). They might have made it more affordable for 2WD cars too - I'm sure I've seen mention of ABS in a 1987/88 Coupe GT somewhere. Probably explains why more 1987/88 cars had it.

I'm gonna stick me neck out again but I think, if it is as good as it looks, and I've no doubt, it's worth every penny.

My 2.2 GT has all-round disc brakes and had the optional extra in its day of having ABS..but fortunately it hasn't!
So yes...I think the ABS option started around '87 (for GTs anyway). |
