Yes each to their own, but I understand why you made that decision. Changing suspension components can result in lengthy ABS fault-finding after reassembly. And it is something else to go wrong which because it's too early to have plug-in diagnostic ability, can cost in terms of labour finding the problem.

Yes, ABS was very rare on CQs, not many people took up the £1200 option back then as it was a lot of money to spend.

I have 2 87 CQ's one with ABS and leccy mirrors and the other non ABS and manual windows.

ABS was a high price option back in the day, it is quite a rare option in the great scheme of things, although them seem to appear on the 87 and 88 cars more often than other years though.

My Coupe range brochure says all quattro models get ABS as standard for the 1988 model year, (which started 1 Aug 87). They might have made it more affordable for 2WD cars too - I'm sure I've seen mention of ABS in a 1987/88 Coupe GT somewhere. Probably explains why more 1987/88 cars had it.

Makes sense with what I have seen - seen enough trying to find a decent enough one!

I'm gonna stick me neck out again but I think, if it is as good as it looks, and I've no doubt, it's worth every penny.

My 2.2 GT has all-round disc brakes and had the optional extra in its day of having ABS..but fortunately it hasn't! So yes...I think the ABS option started around '87 (for GTs anyway).
