Default DVLA Vehicle Info

When you look up a vehicle the DVLA site no longer lists the actual date of registration - it now gives just the month and year.
It's a small thing but looks like another land grab by unaccountable forces (of data protection in this case) - does anyone know why it's happened?

I don't think its anything sinister Minty.

The Civil Servants have to be seen to be constantly improving things, so many things that aren't broken tend to get fixed. In time that information may well return as things continue to be tweaked to the point they end up back where they started....

Chris, I use two DVLA pages, the second one still lists the full date.

Ringmaster, I have a natural distrust of the motives behind anything done by government & other public authorities because of their history of withholding info - I hope you're right & the detail returns.

Ken, thx

Sadly the MOT database only lists vehicles which were still in ticket when it starts in 2005/6.

Did you mention a V888 or suchlike to me not long ago Minty ? it was to find out the original registration number for a vehicle, wonder if that has exact date on it still and can be used to check any car, or am i getting all mixed up which is not hard

I may have done, & it's an easy way to find your own car's history. If you don't have a direct connection - ownership only I suspect - then they won't disclose any info.

They will of course sell your details to any low life parking company that asks for it though

It seems an unnecessary backward step to start withholding info that was previously available.
