I can relate to that, and sometimes I think it's easier to do nothing. |

This continues to be a great forum & like others on here, I'm on other forums too. But this is the one I look at numerous times a week, as oppose to the others that I just go on very occasionally!
Changes I'd like to see however... A simplified way to post up pics!! Honestly the current method is out the ark & is the only reason I don't post up much as I struggle to figure it out! & And perhaps it is time to look at having an 'A-series' section of the forum to contribute to keeping the forum alive? This could also be a death knell to enthusiasts of pre-A series cars though as I witnessed on 'cavweb' in the early 2000's. Same thing again, forum traffic was down so cavweb became 'Vauxhallownersnetwork' & opened up to all Vauxhall models & the Cavalier section quickly dwindled away & somebody created 'vauxhallcavalier.com' instead. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing some changes, whilst maintaining the fabric of the site as it currently is ![]()

) even thought I worked in IT (mainframe computers not the PC stuff) for 37 years I did not discover Ebay until 2005 and then the S2 forum in 2007 and this forum in December 2010 joining as a paid up member so I could advertise some parts a couple of years ago. So between 1988 and 2005 I worked through all sorts of issues and fixes on my cars learning the hard way, sometimes helped by being a member of the (UR) quattro owners club via their newsletter (member since the late 90's) until I found initially a cheaper source of parts (Ebay and the internet) and then a source of knowledge (mostly always accurate and usually very useful) on this and the S2 forum and via google (be very careful lots of incorrect stuff comes up via this search engine). In Feb 2017 I'm 60 and will have been retired for 4 years but I want to be able to still use this forum to share (occasionally) and browse Audi related stuff and interact with like minded people. If I could I would spend most of my spare time just fixing stuff or working on cars and motor cycles (why did I work in IT ? oh it paid well). I'll have a go at anything myself, don;t like paying anyone to do something I could do myself. I owned the UR and B3 cars when they were being sold as new models so I feel qualified as a true enthusiast, I know most sucessful people of my age have moved on to newer cars but as I still do all my own maintainence I just can't get on with the current Audi (well most manufacturers) stuff its just far over complicated for me (too much integration with unnecessary electronics and not enough driver experience), I want a car that I get in turn the key and it starts and drives great, don;t need all the MMI stuff and wifi connectivity etc. I recall that for years I did not even have a radio in my cars, prefered the exhaust soundtrack, perhaps its as a result of also being a classic motor cycle enthusiast. I don't and won't do any social media, never seen the need for it but unfortunatly most young people seem to revel in it so going forward for this and other forums to survive perhaps we do need to embrace these other medias and also expand the forum so that it includes newer classic Audis (the first A4's are now older than the last B4 cabriolets) to ensure it continues and prospers. |

Some cars are classic simply because of their age i.e. Audi 1.8s not desirable but classic none the less. Some cars are classic just because they are i.e. S2, Audi TT (mk1) R/S4, R/S6 etc. Sold in relatively low numbers and turn heads. It's these that should be part of this forum. Slacky had a problem with his S6 recently but you had to check the S2 forum to know about it

Just to add another site for CA, it appears that Coxy has now started a 'drive tribe' page.Dunno' owt about it but here's the link.
https://www.drivetribe.com/t/PbFO8Sm...TqiITRsQVULodg Doubt I'm up for it as another site to search is a bit to much for me. I like it here. But have fun if you go play... Last edited by Jake Blight; 29-11-16 at 11:49 AM. |

I no I am going to get completely shot down in flames here as I am the minority but I am going to say it anyway! Saying lets stay off Facebook is basically saying we dont want to attract a new age/era of Classic Audi fan because like it or love it- it is the way its gone.
Shutting yourself off to Facebook is the same as shutting yourself off to mobile phones- you dont need it to survive but you will just be the secluded minority if you dont at the end of the day. I'm speaking from experience because i like others was not a fan, I was told it was a great way to promote your business and I stayed off doing that as I didnt like it. However eventually I was convinced to try it and I now pick up quite alot of work from doing it. Its just got so much clout and you cant get away from that. I'm in no way saying people are wrong for not liking it but just making the point that it works. My Dad another obvious example- massive motorsport fan, refused to go on Facebook and ended up just missing out basically. All the latest news he was missing out on or finding out further down the line. Kept asking me how I was finding out all my information and when I told him Facebook he just shunned it. In the end he was just left out in a social environment when talking about racing because he wasnt up to date with latest news and was sticking to his old fashioned weekly Autosport magazine. He joined Facebook last week and now realises what he was missing out on. Totally agree the forum is better for Classic Audi but dont agree Classic Audi shouldnt be on Facebook. |
