In my humble experience I would avoid a cam change then, as you can tell by the video, it shunted the power further up the rev range. Maybe a gas flowed head with matching inlet system and exhaust manifolds/system and a decent fuel/spark engine management system would produce better low down torque results.

41mm inlet valves
35mm exhaust valves
Special large cast iron valve seats
Modified distributor
Fitted oil cooler with thermostat
Baffled sump
Price £2500 (1985)
Technical Data:
167 bhp at 5,500 rpm (std 136 bhp at 5,800rpm)
155 lbs/ft at 4,500 rpm (std 136 lbs/ft at 3,500 rpm)
0-60 mph 7.5 secs
max. speed 130 mph

From the TSR website

2.6l 5cyl short engine (2226cc exchange)
Based on the 2226cc block, these units are fitted with a longer stroke crankshaft and bored to 82.5/83mm for a massive 2.6ltrs. To take advantage of this huge capacity we recommend the fitting of our Pack 'C' head in which form the engine will produce up to 185bhp.

TSR PACK C 10V
To release the full potential of the 5 cylinder engine, these heads are re-engineered to accept the same 40mm/35mm valve specification as used in the Pack C Golf heads.
With similar attention given to porting and gasflowing these engines will easily give 170bhp when fitted with an appropriate camshaft. These power figures are similar to Quattro Turbo engines but without the turbo complications.

Cam shaft
Audi/VW 10v 2.2/2.3 ltr, Shrick, 276 degree, 11.5mm lift, Fast Road

What was the load input for K star?
Hi Andy
Thanks for the info I had not seen the TSR details. Are you missing the S2 yet or still happy with the 350Z?
Yeah I'm sure more modern injection and ignition would offer an advantage but at what cost, maybe beyond its worth for power gains so I was going to keep it simple although not totally ruled out as there is someone local who maybe able to offer a cheap (ish) solution.
First off though I would like to get hold of one of the conversions, push comes to shove I look at a 7a block and kv block I have here and start playing.
Really appreciate the input by all......Thanks keep it coming

Not wanting to put anyone off, but be warned. Once you go down the path of wanting lots of grunt, you are starting on a slippery slope. Like so many on here, BTDT
First mandatory additional expenditure for added power, brakes. Suspension renewal upgrade also advisable. And so it goes on until you want more grunt.

Look forward to the project thread though. Good luck

I thought CC increase would help with more torque as well? Regarding cams I have once read online that an 1.9 carb engine cam would be different/good but can't remember in what way. Got one doing nothing though.

I miss the S2, the 350z is a "better" car, but I don't love it the same. I miss quattro, and turbo power delivery, however I don't miss having to fix it as I don't have time this year so a turn key car that is still fun fits the bill for now.

A 170-180hp 10v will be a big improvement anyway, like a 7A with a better soundtrack.

Have you thought about picking up a complete 2.5tdi engine or car for the block/crank?

Devils advocate, would you not want a new cam as it is now a larger displacement?

had k-star on my 2ltr 16v mk1,gained 10bhp overhall, before that did the wur mod, drill a hole in the brass plug in the back, and lower the control pressure by way of a allen key, this increases the fueling accross the rev range
