I don't remember the B2 80 Sport having gas struts?! Did they? I had two of them plus two B2 80 quattro's and I don't remember them having them. Did they not have the big spring thing that the C3 100/200 saloon had? I do however remember being hit on the head a lot!

No gas struts on the 80 Sport I have and there are no struts on the rear donor end of an Audi 80 CL. There are some sort of metal rods that criss cross the area under the rear parcel shelf and they must be the springs that you are referring to. Definitely no gas struts though.....

According to VagCat/ETKA, there is a strut listed.

811827552A. Option?

Although, knowing how Audi's attention to detail goes wrt their drawings, that may be the tailgate strut.
T'internet gives a length of 305mm, rod stroke (oo er) of 110mm, or there a outs.

Wow, how do I not remember that? And all my 80's were facelift versions. I must be getting old.

I've always found any struts I need on here (in one way or another, even if just finding something with the right length and stroke) -

http://www.strutsdirect.co.uk

Pointed that way by the late great Groomus. I imagine if you contacted them they'd find you something that'll fit.
