New member hunting for ur

Good Morning All.

I’ve just joined and my first post is a request.

Many years ago I used to be a proud owner of a black 88 quattro, properly one of the best cars I’ve ever owned.

I’ve decided I’d like to own a quattro once again. I’m therefore on the lookout for a car.
I’ve seen a few over the last few months and many seem overpriced and not in great condition.

I was wondering if anyone is thinking of selling or knows of a car that maybe available.
Of course an RR would be nice but I need to be realistic given the current lack of availability and prices. Therefore I’m properly on the hunt for a later model WR, or a higher mileage MB.

Condition is very important to me and I’d like a well-cared for example. Mileage is not an issue, if the car has been cherished.

I might consider a car needing TLC, if the price allows for the required TLC. However the car must be solid and mechanically sound.

Ive just spent over 6 months searching for the right car, your only half an hour from me so if you want any help or advice, please feel free to PM me.

Depending on your budget I would say the old adage 'you get what you pay for' is usually true. It really depends on how fussy your are about things being right with a car.

Be careful of polished turds and overpriced mediocre cars, and if you budget will allow buy the best you can afford, but you must be willing to travel the length and breadth of the country. Its sods law the best car will be 300 miles away.

They are quite complex cars (for their era) with lots of potential gremlins if you buy the wrong car!!

Project cars will probably cost just as much to put right, if not more, as buying a good one and parts are a big issue so don't expect to be able to pick everything up off the shelf.

Based on the WR and MB models

There is not much below 6k for projects nowadays!!

In my experience there are a lot of 8-12k cars that are wrong on lots of levels, poor bodywork. paintwork, mechanicals, electricals etc

12-15 k you could be lucky and find a well cared for beauty that is spot on, but you are equally likely to find cars in this range that are overpriced rubbish that should be in the previous price range.

15-16k plus and you would want everything to be pretty much spot on, substantial enthusiast history, evidence of suspension work, pretty much perfect bodywork, shutlines, working electricals,Patrizia , FUBA etc etc

add 8- 10k for the RR.

I've seen a few cars described by their owners as good to excellent, but in the flesh either patched up or needing plenty of TLC.

There does seem to have been a rise in prices. I sold by mb ten years ago for less than many wr examples seem to be selling for now. And it was a good well cared for car!

Looking at prices of late you may get lucky but expect a long wait ( winter I reckon )

Are prices of UR's really up to that sort of money :S

I value mine at around £8k with a quote for a full respray at £2.5k, making a £10.5k car with solid mechanicals, no rust and a fresh lick of paint.

The more I hear about peoples budgets for these cars the more I think I should probably hold onto mine until it tops £20k lol

Have watched these for a long while, agree with hmg comments. Just 2 thoughts to add from me: actually an MB would be cheaper, if you want a early WR, quadlamp or flatfront, you'll need deep pockets. Although later WR and MB are less. Check out www.mobile.de, some good cars on there, but more euros. But you'll get them back ++ if you ever sell. 2nd thought- colour and originality are important, affect prices much more than other cars. Strange. e.g. Pearl white v expensive, plain white v cheap, others vary an lot.
