Default Hall Sender

I have a sneaky feeling my hall sender maybe on its way out, I've had intermittent stalling and non-starting, over a period of many years, gradually getting worse... Tried most other things apart from the coil itself - which I may try.

From reading the symptoms online it would figure.

Has anyone had any experience with replacing the sender as opposed to the whole distributor?

Also, the part numbers are a minefield, anyone know a definite distributor part number for a 1985 Audi 80, 1781cc DS motor?

Many thanks,
