Hall Sender
I have a sneaky feeling my hall sender maybe on its way out, I've had intermittent stalling and non-starting, over a period of many years, gradually getting worse... Tried most other things apart from the coil itself - which I may try.
From reading the symptoms online it would figure. Has anyone had any experience with replacing the sender as opposed to the whole distributor? Also, the part numbers are a minefield, anyone know a definite distributor part number for a 1985 Audi 80, 1781cc DS motor? Many thanks, Sie! |
Hi Sie
I had same symptoms as you and came across this website. Have a look here, I’m sure you’ll find what you need. Come with a decent warranty too. I copied and pasted their own part number into eBay and found they have an eBay shop which seems a bit cheaper  https://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/PartLists.aspx? |
I've got a hall sender to fit to the distributor for my KV 90.
You need circlip pliers which is why I've been putting it off as I don't have the correct ones. Looks like 034 998 065 is the right one providing you have 026 905 206 F distributor I got mine from Amazon of all places. It was around £40 or so |

I've had a go at replacing the hall sender on my KV distributor and got stuck fairly quickly.
rotor arm and dust cover off and there's a small circlip which holds the trigger wheel in. This circlip sits in a groove on the shaft. Removed that easily enough. There is a vertical groove on the shaft which acts as a key for a small pin for locating the trigger wheel in the correct place. Trigger wheel is stuck solid and that pin isn't moving. I'm wary about damaging the trigger wheel when trying to lever it up. Any thoughts ? The Haynes is its usual helpful self telling me to withdraw the trigger wheel with the pin. Probably easy 30 years ago. |
I wonder if the vertical groove goes beyond the bottom of the trigger wheel? Maybe the pin could be tapped down passed the trigger wheel? I'm thinking you won't be able to see below the trigger?
Heat won't be an option I'd think??? What about one of those wiper pullers, would something like that get in Mike? |
Mike I am sure there is a specific long legged puller for removal of Hall Sender, but sorry I don’t have one
