Ouch! That makes painful reading... I have booked it into a gearbox specialist next Wednesday in a last ditch attempt to save her from the scrap yard.

Fingers crossed :/

Have a good Easter everyone!

To give you an idea of cost James, mine was recently rebuilt (most parts replaced) at a cost of £800 inc. VAT. I know the company well so got about 20% or so discount on the labour.

Wow - that's the kind of cost I just can't afford but thanks for the offer. I'm just hoping they discover some simple problem somewhere outside of the gearbox! Perhaps a goblin with a tin can and a stick making all this racket! ;-)

Well it's bad news.... I think I'll be selling or if not, scrapping the lovely old thing.

Gearbox specialist has confirmed a fatal gearbox problem and although the car still drives beautifully and is MOTd until September, the noise from the gearbox is now quite noticable when you take up drive.

Scrapyard says it'll give me £200 but do you reckon it's worth putting on Ebay to see if somebody will take it? It's in near perfect condition inside and out - the idea of scrapping it seems criminal!

Any thoughts?

Well scrap it. Sorry.

I will be scrapping mine with the same dead gearbox soon.

Just sold my 100 quattro and loads of spares for £190.

Take some choice bits off first though if it is just getting sold by weight. Lights, interior trim bits etc. Stuff you can sell like switches and the like.

Will do - cheers fella. It's immaculate in virtually every way so maybe the parts will be of use to somebody
