10vT or 20vT? decisions decisions.

What would be easier to fit to my CQ? a 10VT or 20VT like a 3b or something.

i know the difference in cost of buying the engines, but will the installation of a 10VT be easier than trying to fit a 3b etc? not to mention cheaper.


what kind of difference are we talking? or will a lot have to change on my car to fit 'either' engine?

I'm thinking the 10vt will be a lot less hassle. but the 20vt has more power/potential.

What do you actually want? How much power? Will you actually get round to doing it?

Have you considered 7A or 2.5 N/A 10V?

Ease of fitment 10 valver. Max power attack- 20 valver.

Chap in the states (jared? Javed? ) was running 500bhp on a 10 valver for some time.... not to be ruled out in the persuit of grunt id say.

10 valvers got less moving parts, less complex but less overall scope for power.
Swings and roundabouts and really depends as others have said, re, what youre looking to accomlplish.

i want more power.. my friend has a mk6 escort gti with a 2.0L zetec, gas flowed & skimmed head, rs2000 injectors, 1.8 head.. induction/exhaust and all that effort and money has given him about 155 bhp.

his car pulls away from me with ease! kind of embarrassing.. but i'm willing to bet i can get more bang for buck with a 10vt transplant and maybe even end up spending less money than he has on his escort.



basically i want to go faster. but maybe not spend quite as much money as some people have on there 20vt !

there's a 10vt for sale on here? correct? will that give me UR quattro power? (200bhp?)
and will it bolt in with very little effort? as far as NOT needing new/custom mounts? etc

will exhaust mount up ok? And what can i do if the ex-manifold fails/cracks?


basically i'll be quite happy with 200 bhp ATM. just so long as it works out MUCH cheaper in total cost than going down the 20vt scenario.

And if there's a bit of room for improvement later on, with out going OTT in spending than that will suit me fine. I'm not looking to smoke any super cars, just maybe keep up with standard cossie or two.

To be expected. Its a lighter car with less transmission losses and more power.
But, put him on the strip next to your stock Kv in the wet and see where he ends up .
Believe it or not its perfectly possible to do a turbo conversion on your current engine as long as the boost is kept manageable due to the higher compression a kv runs ( 10:1).
Maybe you just need a low pressure setup, basically an add on turbo and manifold to give you a 5psi kick.
If you go to the full Ur setup youre going to need the ecu etc to run the KE electronics or go to a standalone system like megasquirt etc, which is ramping up your costs.

Should physically bolt right in, but youre going to have to get around the issues of the injection system.
Exhaust should slot right in if its from the Ur or 200t from the downpipe.
Ex manifold isnt a problem even if it cracks, they can be repaired...ive got cast iron rods and a tig, mig and stick welder so thatd be no real difficulty, bros an *ace* welder too.

Well if youre handy with the spanners and can do your own fab, electrics etc then you can do most anything and do it cheaply, whether or not youll have enough committment to see it through is entirely another thing as is money.

Hmmm if you 200 bhp then buy one as it will be cheaper than trying to convert
