If the fans working on a couple of speeds but not the others thats usually a sign of a blown heater motor rheostat, shouldnt be huge money and a second hand unit will more than likely fix it,

I had same problem on my 90, resistor on blower motor was the culprit. Hides behind the glove box. Find and press locking tab and twist/turn the motor and lift it out to get access
This is the part from memory. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Audi-8...wAAOSws65TrFVk
