Default Central Locking Trouble

any idea what i need to correct the intermittent working of the central locking on the audi 90?

the driver's side rear door button goes down sometimes and the boot has stopped locking with the central locking all together now. rubbish! do you think that the central locking solenoid actuators are gubbed in these two areas?

thanks,

craig

For the boot, are you sure someone hasn't unlocked it and left it in the wrong position? meaning it wont open with the central locking!!!!

not if it's the same routine as i had on the audi 80. the central locking for the boot only happens when you have the key at the horizontal position, if i'm correct. it used to work and then just gave up the ghost one day. you can hear a whirring noise inside the boot for some time after locking the car but the boot won't lock itself any longer and i have to do it manually with the key at the vertical position....

thankfully, not everything in life is as troublesome as a classic audi...!!

Normally, the pump should run for a few seconds until all the locks have actuated, if an actuator doesn't work when others do then it could be stuck or it's pipe is crushed stopping the flow, if the pump continues to run for up to 30 seconds then a pipe is off somewhere.

It's all vacuum, isn't it?
Does it sound at all like the pump is running too long?

If some of the locks are working normally, then at least the sytem is generally working, so now it's a case of checking individual bits.

One thing is the actuators have a rubber diaphragm, which gets brittle, cracks, leaks- result. no movement.

Pipes bent.
But if everything has been working, then I'd think about the actuators.

Sounds like an advert slogan. The complete opposite to 'If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen'.

Sound like a leaky locking solenoid if the pump is running too long.
