Angry Running hot problem, please HELP!

Hello all

You may not have seen much activity from me on here recently, I've been busy fixing up the 200 turbo and getting your Christmas pressies sorted out - the 2010 calendar!

Anyway...I need your help! The 200 turbo is running too hot when driving at slow speeds and when stationary. Since I've bought it and the problem becoming apparent, I thought it would be a good idea to flush the radiator completely and put new antifreeze in (stuff that was in there was bright green! ) and have fitted a new fan switch (thought it may be faulty and not working on the first speed).

Nothing has changed...it's still the same. The fan cuts in at three quarters by which point it's pretty hot and struggles to get the temperature down (just stays in the same position). Once the car is turned off, it'll sit there for 10-15 minutes with the fan on until it's cool again. It can't be the thermostat because it warms up normally and sit's between a quarter and a half when driving normally.

The good news is the fact that it's never actually overheated, just runs hot! Has anyone got any ideas? Starting to pull my hair out over this one!

Thanks

Thanks for your replies! Lots of info there, going to check the relay and fuses first. From reading the article pimpdriver, it seems that the lower speed isn't cutting in when it should be and the high speed comes in (sounds like the car is going to take off!) at three quarters. Going to check a few more things and I will return...

Wish me luck!

Are u sure your A200 really have cooling fan slow speed function? How much pins have that fan switch u installed - two or three? And how much wires have connector?
From what material is your radiator made?

I was just going to ask you if you'd sorted it, obviously not.

If the fan is only cutting in at full speed, and not at mid speed first. I'd check the fan resistor, mounted infront of and below the rad, that link that pimpdriver put up tells you how to check this.

Glad I read that, as I was going to fit a lower temp fan switch (golf mk3) but if mpg suffers I won't be bothering.

If it's not overheating, don't worry about it!
