Default Alternator Terminals

Any chance anyone has got a photo or drawing of the alternator with the cables attached? (Ur or Similar)

I just need to confirm their positions, earth and any seals etc.

Many thanks in advance.

Ian

Hi Ian,

did you get an answer to this?

I'm having problem with my alternator, I recently had a re manufactued one fitted and its not charging but I have noticed a loose blue wire at the back, it looks like it should go to a blade terminal but there is nothing there to plug it in to, any ideas?

Thanks,

Don

Blue wire is "alt ind" for the dash light iirc.

Also field excitation - if it's not connected (to the M6 terminal with an M8 nut) the alternator won't charge.

The ur-quattro is not a good source - different model years are wired differently. The 20V wiring diagram is the best - the alternator is shown as not even connected:

It will, but only when turned at speed enough high for self-excitation.

Some will, some won't. The 90amp ones always seem to do it. There was a change to the harmonic damper 'pulley' as well that made the alternator spin faster on later cars.

ETKA tells porkies about alternators. When Simon Gilmore's failed in Heidelberg none of the versions listed in ETKA would fit and Bosch was out of stock - so they rebuilt his old one overnight. Bosch service in Germany is nothing short of stunning.
