ABK volt meter

Hi guys. My brother bought a very nice A80 the other week to replace his rusty A80 which is also ABK

His old one came with the additional gauges (oil pressure, oil temperature and volt meter), and he'd like them in his new one. I sort of have found out where the oil sensors live, and they would be straight swap I assume? But can't find any info on the volt meter? How does that connect and where? :shake:

Not a spot of rust on it, and suspension is so quite.

Please, not another "I don't have a clue about electrics, but I want to fix something" thread  Oil gauges aren't powered by power of magic, they aren't mechanical either - they are powered with electricity. That's exactly what voltmeter measures.

No shit Sherlock. It must be connected somewhere just can't find wiring diagram for it. :grr:

You will need to pick up an oil pressure and temp sensor and wire them back into the cabin and into the gauges. The volt meter I think just takes a 12v switched feed straight from behind the dash. There might be a separate loom available for these from a car being broken but I don't know. I fitted the gauges with homemade loom joining onto he RS2 loom I put I'm my typ85.

Doesn't sound that bad. The "new" car should have space for the sensors etc. right? :)

There is a white plug shaped like a Tetris piece buried under the forward section centre floor console (below the dash in effect) that has the wires in it for the illumination and voltmeter in the additional gauge set, as set out above the oil temp and pressure gauges have separate wires connecting to respective senders in the engine bay.

I am more used to the 5 cyl (KV) set up of a 90 B3 but i have met the ABK before, both senders live quite close to each other iirc to the right of the engine on / near the oil filter housing?

Yea, they all live in the same place, senders and sensors. :)

There you go then. All you need to do to make the physical space for the gauges and the replacement console is remove the new car's pull out ashtray. Don't forget the little finishing strip that tidies up the dashboard lower edge

I guess it'll take some fiddling but will be worth it. And dash is coming out too as matrix needs swapping, so that will make things somehow easier.

 BTDT, good luck!
