Fuel return.
ok, i have a 1.6 auto audi 80, 1977. The car was trailered to me yesterday with the fuel lines disconected from the motor.
I've sorted the inlet side of things and had the car running for a few seconds, i just dont want to leave it running without the return connected up, i just cant find where the hose connects to. any help much appreciated, thankyou. |
Have a look under the battery box if its on the drivers side of the car.
The fuel lines emerge in that area if im not mistooken! :D |
the fuel lines come up pretty central of the engine bay, inlet goes to mech pump then over rocker cover to carb, then i've got the return pipe lose by the mech pump.
|
Youve got the return coming from the pump itself?
|
no, just got the return line lose in that area at the moment.

fuel supply is the silver hose, cant find where the return connects to anywhere. |
I can. :D
You have a part missing i believe. Its a canister that has a restrictor fitted to it so that the pump fills it to whatever pressure it feeds the carb to (3 to 6psi as a guess) and the return plumbs onto it. Looks a little like this diagram, excuse the playskool type drawing... :) http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...lseparator.jpg |
Thanks, that makes sense. Any idea where I can find this part???
|
Hmmm not gonna be easy id say.
You could use a "T"piece with a restrictor in the return side of the T as found on some weber carb conversions to get you past this hurdle. I may have one somewhere in my private "stash" lol. |
Yeah, its definately that part I'm missing, just had a flick thru an audi 100 manual (haven't got one for the 80!) if you find one in your stash that you are willing to part with, pls let me know ;)
thanks for your help, mark. |
