Ok, heres the story..

The cambelt went, trashing the valves. The idea was to replace the engine with a later 2 litre unit from an Audi 80. I bought a new engine and it came with its own modern style plastic cam cover.

In the mean time, thinking the old engine was going to be scrapped I chucked the cam cover in the scrap pile and weighed it in (Id previously removed it to look at the cam belt)

In the end I bought a recon head and fitted that, complete with a new belt and tensioner. When I went to fit the cambelt cover I remembered id binned it!

Bet your glad you asked now, eh?

Im still going to fit the 2 litre bottom end sometime, just got to wait for the 1800cc unit to go bang, which it shows no sign of doing!
