Default Alternative estate cars???

If you were on the lookout for a good all round estate car with a lot of poke, what would you consider?
Budget of no more than £3k, but around £1500 would be better!
Must have good rear space to fit 2 dogs (one is huge!!).
Must have power but not averse to an oil burner!

Not thinking of the usual Passat/A4's but something a little different.

Nissan Stagea
Volvo 850 T5

any other suggestions/ideas??

Scrape together a little bit over 3k and you start to get in to 330d land, now they are impressive!
My mates is remapped, front mount IC, and a slightly tweeked turbo of some sort and leaves my S2 no problem... and still does silly MPG too.
I am seriously considering chopping in the S2 for one
