Default VDO Gauge strange one

Theres this gauge on the Bay now the man says its a temp gauge have a look

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

As it goes down to -25 oC and up to + 40 oC, I think its a fuel temp gauge.

So what do you think..

Could it be an ambient temp guage ? i guess with the appropriate sender it could do whatever you want within that range. It is electric and not capilliary by the looks of it.
would a fuel temp guage be of any real use ?

That was my first thought - ambient temperature.
I suppose if you had a mega efficient intercooler, you might need it for inlet air temperature .

You know what I think. It's not off a car at all it is part of a fridge / freezer unit on either a fridge trailer or a fridge container. They are all digital now but used to be anologue and used to be coupled up to a large wax disc ( bit like a tachograph) to show the temperature trend, and most normal fridge trailers run at a range of -20 to -25. I reckon he's trying his luck t.b.h.
