Question for the Computer Geeks

Why is that I can upload photos of around 2mb to sites such as photobucket no problem but I cant to many other sites such as ebay .I have to go really small (50k!!) for an upload to be achieved.
I've tried using browsers such as firefox with no difference.
I've been on the phone to a very nice guy in India called "Steve" (yeh!) for hours with no joy.
Is it a problem with the settings on my computer? or the provider or what?
any help or wild guesses appreciated.

normally one of 2 reasons.

firstly, photobucket will allow you to upload pictures up to a very large size and with a pro account, there are no size restrictions, where as most hosting sites like eBay, limit the sizes to reduce the amount of data uploaded to their servers.

other one is that most internet service providers will only guarantee a download speed and don't in fact guarantee you to be able to upload.

thanks for help but thats not the solution.
I simultaneously tried to upload a 2mb photo to photobucket and at the same time tried to upload the same photo to a site my Wife uses (for work!!) which allows files up to 4mb (we'd tried and failed previously to upload to this site).
Result was photobucket yes, other site still waiting.
So it cant be upload speeds being insufficient and its not a problem with maximum file sizes?
Still baffled

Maybe problems with the site you are uploading to and it might have been affected by the snow!
