My brother who lives in Sweden bought an 80 2.0 which is the European base model 90 bhp version. What is the difference between this and the normal 115? what can be done to bring it more to traffic speed? He sent me an email stating that the two outside plugs were beige and the insides are white. I can't think of any other reason than blocked injectors for this one. Any suggestions? He also runs the thing on BioEthenol and we worked out that it returns about 25 mpg should this be better and should the timing and mixture be altered?
I cannot find any info on this engine or see where any adjustments are to be made unless its similar in deign to the older 80s. Thanks guys |

Does he run it on bioethenol as standard ? If so which version, en85 is highly corrosive if used in the wrong type of injection system. I was unaware that any early cars could use this fuel.

All cars built after 1988/89 are designed to cope with ethanol since the stuff has been routinely added to regular fuel ever since (even if the petrol pump doesn't tell you, there is usually at least 5% ethanol in all fuel)
The "it's corrosive, it'll destroy your engine" myth has been around for many years and it stems from a confusion between Methanol and Ethanol - both "alcohol" but both very different (don't drink methanol - it's worse than corrosive). There have been attempts to run cars on methanol, the car runs well but, like you said, it's corrosive and the inside of the engine, especially the head, doesn't like it. That's why ethanol is better. Most cars in Brazil have been running on 100% ethanol since sometime in the 80s, it's an interesting history. |
