Default Schoolboy error. (bloody Fords!!)

Drove up to Perth on Thursday to pick up the gearbox for my Nissan Pulsar, the vehicle delivery company I used to pick up the Pulsar forgot to lift it when they picked up the car (it was completely stripped)

Decided to take my dad's mondeo, as it's got enough space for the 4wd box, as the back seats go down.

Managed to get 8 miles away from my destination, when the car suddenly lost power, and juddered to a halt. I was on the A9 at busy time, but managed to nurse it in to a lay-by.

I had no idea what the hell was wrong with it, as it's only done 27,000mls from new, and I didn't think it could break down that easily.

Tried and tried to start it, but to no avail.

Phoned my dad about 2.30 to try and get me, but didn't finish work till 3.30.

Sat in the car for 4 hours freezing my tits off at the side of the A9 until my dad finally found me.

The problem........

Bastard petrol tank had air-locked itself.

According to the fuel guage, I had over 1/4 tank of fuel, but that was a phantom reading, as the vacuum in the tank made it look like that. As soon as the cap was unscrewed, it hissed quite a bit obviously drawing in the air,

managed to get a couple of gallons of fuel in it, and it started within a second. The fuel guage went down to just over the empty mark.

All I needed to do was unscrew the bloody petrol cap, and i'd probably have been ok, but it's something I've never came across before, certainly not with any Audi i've ever owned.

I'll certainly remember next time.
