Default Headlight problem

Hello all, i have just aqquired my dream car the audi coupe 2.3 10v 5 cylinder 1993 on a L. mint condition, except, the headlights work fine and so does the stork as far as i know but when i use the headlights they all work fine until i try to use main beam, they work when flashing/pulling stork towards but when i try and put main beam on by pushing away the dipped headlights go out and only the side lights come on then when pulling the stork back into position dipped headlights return? any help on this would be much appreciated. thanks stephen.

You can get second hand storks from most breakers for around £15 to £20 fitting quite easy bit harder if your car is fitted airbag because the steering wheel has to come off?
