is it just the speedometer or all of the clocks???

What is the problem with it, we may be able to help, as the 100/200 speedo has a habit of not working due to dirty contacts.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

It is just the speedometer. But it also affects the Cruise Control (not that I use it much).
But the fact is that once I go over 80 mph, the mileage meter stops.
So it is a bit annoying to keep track of the miles done.

Thanks for you help in this.
Regards,

Kim.

Well, that's interesting. Speedometer needle in that moment goes to zero [ok, there isn't zero ] as well?
One guy, who often changes something in he's C3 2.5 TDI, once me said that speedo clocks are interchangeable from all speedos, that have mechanical odometer - so basically B3, C3 with new interior, B4 and C4 A100.

Hi Steve,

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean by "big dash model".
I am not too technical.

Thanks.

Kim.

I think with "big dash" he meant new style dashboard, which u must have, because it was in A200 from 1988. and A100 in 1990

So he have old one which will not fit in your A200

It will affect quite a few things if your speed signal is not being forwarded by your speedometer. See my speed signal fault finding procedure pdf at www.audi200.org.uk

I'd suspect dirty contacts on the rear of the instrument cluster. It's an easy-ish removal from the "eyebrow dash" type44s like yours. It easiest if you remove the steering wheel first but can be done without. The usual culprit is where the speedo plugs into the printed circuit board. The long pins get tarnished over the years and decrease in conducting efficiency until you get to the dash-slapping stage. A sharp tap on the top of the dash above the speedo can sometimes restore the speedo for a moment or two. I suggest if you can do this and it starts working again, you have the usual fault. I will do a procedure and post it here or on my website (or both) later.
