Default Water in Coupe GT

Hey out there. Anyone else ever have trouble with water soaking the footwell carpets in the back of their Coupe? My car has been VERY well maintained by the 1st owner, and by me. The car is currently living outdoors, a problem I'm working on remedying.

The floor behind the passenger seat keeps getting wet in the rain. Yet I find no "river" or point of origin. My only thought is the sun roof is the origin and the water beads inside the body shell, condensing on the floor pan, soaking the carpet. The passenger door rubber seal looks minty. At least to my eyes.

I'm going to pick-up a car cover for now but this is no solution.

Anyone else chase this gremlin.

try gettin your better half to get a hose pipe on it while you sit inside, see if anything apparent is coming in. How wet is the inside, just mildy damp or is it something a bit more excessive?

The capet ( black) was shiney this AM after rain overnight. If I touched the carpet water welled around my fingers. I used a wet /dry vac on it and pulled a liittle less than 2 cups out of the passenger side rear floor. Concentations along the seat slides.

Is it parked slightly nose up and on a slight angle? I ask because it can mislead you into thinking where the leak is... Wet footwell, rear passenger, might start passenger front if parked at an angle...

I'd guess door membranes, or door rubbers.

Excellent question Ian.

Generally parked nearly level at home and work.

If you have had to use a wet and dry vac then you have a bad seal somewhere. I reckon you'll find it easy with the hose pipe trick

You could have a leak in the door sills or, as with my first quattro there was rusting on the a-pillar which let the water trickle through and hey presto, wet through passenger side carpets which became wet rear passenger side carpets when the car was parked at an angle!

So check your a-pillar for rusting through

Park it the other way around if possible, see if it moves to the opposite side of the footwell?...

But look at the door membranes, they get slaughtered when alarms/repairs etc get undertaken, the membrane gets ripped/torn or removed. This membrane is critical to keeping the water that runs down the window glass from coming up against the door card, and thus, into the car.

Used to get wet carpets front and rear on drivers side until I changed the door membranes that were ripped from years of adding mods and general deterioration. New upgraded foam type and no more problems..
