Default Highway code changes 29th Jan 2022

Sorry if this has been covered in the past but, I was watching the news last night and ended up shouting at the TV again, from today 29th January 2022 pedestrians have the right of way crossing the road at junctions not when crossing an open road only when at a junctions, looks to me like the powers at be are looking for more insurance claims to being made with cars being rear ended as you brake quite suddenly turning left or right to let pedestrians cross the road, or is it they are trying to get people injured or god for bid killed, as for the bicycle rules ( I do not own a bicycle ) I do see the point riding in the middle of the lane as that will stop vehicles passing as close as they do, lets face it their bad road users in vehicles and on bicycles.

Youtube video https://youtu.be/pos4iUn3rF0 is worth a watch, Scottish guy ranting on.
Cover your ears.

All the cycling related changes are just caving in to the fact cyclists are totally unmanageable. It’s just changed to make their behaviour legal. Around here it’s been cycling anarchy for years., they even turn the A24 dual carriageway north of Worthing into an unofficial cycling race every Sunday morning.

As you say, it’s the pedestrian one that’s really concerning, to come off the main road where we live will see cars coming to a stand in a busy 40mph limit. It won’t be long before there’s a shunt.

And, if you apply the rule outside our daughter’s school the traffic will effectively stop for 20-minutes.

I note it says’T’ junctions, we’ve got a lot of ‘T’ junctions that have been turned into mini-roundabouts, that’ll be fun because I assume the rule doesn’t apply there.

Good point about the roundabouts issue, my main worry is pedestrians, they will get it wrong applying the junction right of way law to other points crossing a road and end up being hurt and I don't want to be the one getting out of the car to pick them up, this is nuts.

If I’m reading it correctly (he hierarchy bit) it’s probably every junction regardless. Which is going to cause mayhem.

I understand there was no one representing the motorist during the consultation process that led up to these rule changes... Had the outcome been the reverse I'm sure there would have been numerous outcries over the way things were handled...
