Hello luvs!
Ive been quite a fan of www.28dayslater.co.uk for a couple of yrs now. Its about Urban Exploration, where folk enter old buildings and take photos. These are usually condemned places or closed down ones. Among the kind of locations are often mental asylums, hospitals, gas works and the like... Some even scale tall cranes, and take magnificent photos by night when they reach the summit. Now Im no girls blouse and Im well up for this. So,seeing as my last meet was about as well thought out as a Jewish porkfest then Id like to see how many here would like to come with me... Any location suggestions welcomed too. Steve

Hmm good idea. Secret nuclear bunker exploration anyone?
When i was a schoolkid, we used to get into allsorts. One of the things we did was explore a drainage tunnel. On a saturday morning, equipped with wellies and a torch, we went and sought out some of the local drains. The one was pretty big affair around 4, maybe 5 feet high. Staring into the depths of dark hole with the sound of water torrenting somewhere inside out of plain sight is for a kid, a pretty scary thing. But in i went, mate hanging back to see what happened to me. ![]() Got about 20 feet inside and could see the source of the noise- another smaller drain about half way up absolutely blasting water onto the opposite side- was all the spill off the road as it had been raining prior to us going all spelunkering. By now my eyes were starting to get used to the lack of light and i was feeling a lot more comfortable with being down there. Nothing came out the darkness to drag me in, was ok. Mate also ventured in but eventually cacked em and buggered off home so i stayed put and slowly worked my way past the torrents of water to a distinct left turn. Above the left turn was a chamber about 15 feet high with a nice ledge to stand on and above that the manhole cover-in the middle of the road. You could hear the cars above as they went over it- the people above would never have imagined that just a few feet below them was me, cold, wet but still intrigued about what lay in front of me off in the distance. Climbed back off the ledge, water went over my welly- bloody great! Wet feet are no fun especially when inside a welly full of clammy water. The tunnel was pretty straight but had a slight downward run to it and was clean, devoid of any debris, just some large cobwebs every so often. After about a quarter mile i found myself at the top of some steps, went down these and it started to get lighter. Another distinct left turn and some bars on the end, blocked my way out into the now sunny afternoon. Luckily, the bars were hinged at the top so i could squeeze out of past them. Had a look around and got my bearings- was at the back of the old car dealerships! Yes! Went back up the same way and went home. After that id often divert from school and go home thru the tunnel in total darkness, never bothered me at all. I also explored another local drain but this one had about 100foot drop to the bottom so you had to climb down it on the rungs sticking out the wall. At the bottom was a chamber and an entry and exit pipe for a land drain. You could actually surf it down the one about a half mile on a skateboard ( i never did) which comes out at the swamp at the back of the scrappy. Dropping a rock down was awesome! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! ![]() |

Old churches and places or worship do it for me, something about the afterlife and all that stuff. Was big into weegee board when I was younger and we did it in an old 16th centry church, F**CKED my head up for years. Also looney bins, all those tortured soles\!!!!!

I've got three places I'm planning on going to in the near future. The N Wales hospital at Denbigh, a mine that was used as a bomb storage area during the war in Llanberis and another mine where all Londons art work was kept in the war at Blaenau Ffestiniog.
If anyone is up for it we could plan a date for one of them. We could also do the Deva if you fancy an easy one first. |
