Default Type 85 Coupe quattro steering rack asap

Has anyone got a serviceable type 85 power steering rack. Mine is on its way out despite being overhauled 10 years ago and only done 30K since... Needed asap and looking at it half the engine is going to have to be dismantled to get it out...... Was easy last time as I had an empty engine bay..... All help appreciated

All type 85 power racks are the same... if memory serves me correctly.
This issue started to show itself last year and assumed the bushes were to blame..... but no you can grab the moving part of the rack and rotate it 30 degrees from way tothe other which in turn alters the steering very slightly. Prefer not to drive the car in anger in case it goes altogether......
Just a thought but is there any adjustment on these Be great if all it needs is some shims or adjustment

All type 85 racks are not the same - granted, there is very little difference in them for instance my WR Quattro has part number 857 my coupe has part number 811 - they look identical - but 811 has more teeth on the rod giving it a better (smaller )turning circle.
I would certainly be wary of your rack as it sounds like the pinion cog which drives the shaft is worn! -

I have just had all sorts of steering woes lately, - I've learnt a lot from from this, there are lots of companies out there that refurbish racks and generally are quite free with their information and advice -

Unfortunately there is no adjustment capabilities on the racks - once they have worn they are scrap.

You can always put steering rack from b3 or b4. The best option would be one from 2.8 v6 with servotronic.

I'll be going nowhere near a servotronic rack...
They were heavily critised and the later S2's reverted back to a normal rack after complaints. Steering on the series 2's is one of the best setups Audi have had, so stick with it.... cheers
