Default 2.3 goupe gt engine help please

Hello people, i have just bought a little project in the way of a 1988 2.3 coupe gt fi, it has came to me with some problems.

To start with there was no spark and the fuel pump was not priming, i traced this back to some cables that the previous owner had disconnected from the coil.

If anyone has a photo of the coil and wiring it would be a great help to see if i have the wires in the right order

so i now have a spark to all five plugs and fuel going to the injection, but still no life in the old girl.

I loosened off the cold start valve fuel line to see if the fuel was getting throu the system under pressure and fuel did squirt out at some pressure.
Spark plugs do not seem to be getting any fuel tho!

Tomorrow i will be having a look at the injection unit as i think the plunger in the unit mabe sized stoping fuel going to the injectors!

Does this sound like the logical next step to get the car running?

Any help or guidance would he great

Thanks
James

The mixture screw really shouldn't be adjusted without an exhaust analyzer.

That said, it sounds like you may have the car running now. I'd get it to a test centre and get the exhaust readings checked. Worst case would be mixture is too rich or poor causing leaning & high temps or bore wash.

When I was attempting to get my 80 back to life, I pulled the injectors out of the head, bridged the fuel pump relay, then lifted the plunger to see if I had fuel coming through.

Once that was done and the ignition circuit was in place, I attempted to set the ignition timing. It was nigh on impossible to get the right advance at the right idle - in the end I disconnected the ISV and adjusted the idle by the idle screw in the TB. Runs very nicely now

Thanks for the advice hoyle, i realy dont know what the prevoiuse owner has adjusted as to my understanding he had the car for 3 years and never got it to run! So everything could have been adjusted out of wack.

My next place to start is the idle speed screw and see what affect that has, the idle is very very low at 400-500rpm

I will have another stab at the idle on friday as i finish work early and it will at least have a couple of hours of daylight left lol

I have been out in the garage to nite!
Now it starts on the button and idles bang on 900rpm. All 5 cylinders firing! The mixture and idle screws were way out. Lol

Will see if the mechanic at work has an exhaust analizer i can use to see how its running.
