Default Cam belt

Hi
i recently purchased a 1988 audi 80 1.8s i was going to get the cam belt changed as the last belt was changed in 2004 according to service book and because of the non working odo im not sure of the mileage on this belt.
So i was wondering if i need to get water pump changed at the same time,as im not sure if they are driven by the cam belt or can be changed independently?
Also local garage quoted me £150 to change cam belt and tensioner would this be a fair price?.

If its a 4 pot then no, the water pump is driven by the fan belt, £150 is a fair price to do the job at a garage..

£150 including parts is indeed a fair price, that's what I'd charge for the job.

A few years back(well, maybe 10!?) I bought a Golf Driver,mk2, and I'm assuming your engine will very similar.....anyway I replaced the cam belt which cost maybe £5 and it took no time at all to do.
Given your garage is doing the belt and tensioner, charging you an hour of their time, all for £111..............it's not a lot of money for good piece of mind. They're certainly NOT ripping you off.

The engine is the same as mk2 1.8 golf so im not to sure why other garages that i got quotes from wanted between £150- £220 to do this job when the parts are just over £30 and it is only a hours work.
The service book says the last cam belt change was only 20k miles ago but was carried out in 2004 so nearly 10 years and rubber does perish over the years
so as you say not worth risking for the sake of £111.
looking through the service history there is a quote for a replacement cam belt in 1998 from the main dealer and they quoted £95.
