Default 1.8t conversion clutch options

Hi All,

What is the best clutch option to go for with a 1.8t engine going into a B2 quattro.
A eastern european man told me to get the S6 clutch, but that must be massive?

I am confused please help or let me know what you chose to do, thank you.

just wondering if you got anywhere on this situation?

I have disappointed myself - I went cheap and bought a so-say uprated unit from Techniclutch on ebay which slips as soon as I put my foot down and it comes on boost! proving the old adage - You buy cheap - you buy twice!! so I hope you didnt go there!

So I need to sort the same issue! please let me know if you have had success?

Bry

IIRC in order to fit 240 mm clutch on 1.8T, some sort of 1.9 TDI flywheel have to be fitted. I don't know exactly from which model as I am not fan of 4 pot engines.

There's nothing massive there, just 240 mm clutch like everywhere with pot count bigger than 4.

The VW boys all use G60 lightened flywheel with VR6 clutch kits for the 1.8t swaps. OK thanks for answering the first question 240mm clutch size, appreciated.

My next question is, will the G60 flywheel work with b2 quattro box or do I need to use my original flywheel with VR6 clutch? Just because most sellers advertise the clutch kit with G60 flywheel.

Why do you want to use those VW components? "VW boys" use them because they have no choice - do you want to use weaker components to be "vw boy in audi"? All those transverse vw's have 228mm clutches, apparently bellhousing doesn't allow anything bigger, or that's simply economy, because when range is topped by 2.8 NA engine, it doesn't need anything very strong. You, on the other hand, could use 240 mm clutch, provided that you use 5 pot gearbox - all that is needed is 1.9 TDI flywheel and 240 mm clutch kit, intended for A200tq.

I don't have a 5 pot gearbox. My quattro is the 4 pot 1.8dz type, can I use a S6 clutch? from the 4.2 v8 manual. That is also 240mm, or should I be using TT quattro clutch? Basically it needs to be strong enough for 350-400hp.

Depends on your gearbox.
B2 4cyl q box and 240mm clutch? - forget about it
If you use something newer like 01A, 01E then options are limitless.
