Angry Bus Lane Penalty Charge(PLPC)

FUMING.
Got in from work today and a letter awaited me.Opened it and it was off,Liverpool City Council. It was a,Bus Lane Penalty Charge Notice.
It has a still shot(off a CCTV camera)of me(in my car) in a bus lane and asking for a fine of £30 if I pay within 2 weeks or £60 if I pay by the end of May.
I'll start by saying,I HATE people who drive along the Bus Lanes.

I remember the day, because I was coming back from my Brother's unit.
The still photo does, show me in the bus lane(over to the far right of it). What it doesn't show(zoomed in)is the car to my right, stopped to turn right(across the on coming traffic).
It was at 16.15 hours and the roads were hectic.
I know where the spot is and I've done this manouver,a few times.
It's a two lane road, the left lane is a bus lane. Most times you come upto this spot there is usually a car stopped wanting to go right, across the on coming traffic.
As per usual there was a car there waiting to turn right. All the cars in front went(left, into bus lane)around the stationary car and back into the right lane.I followed and I have done this in the past.
It's a very busy stretch of road and if you stopped behind the right turning car,you could be there for a long time and a tail back would be caused, very quickly.
I went around the car safely(as everyone else did)and I was in the bus lane, for all of about 5 seconds. Then I got straight back into, the right lane.
I'm going to,try and appeal.See what,they say??
Strictly speaking,I did ENTER the bus lane. But I think, this is a very harsh decision.

What do you think,my chances are?
I've had no traffic offences and have a clean licence.I'm squeaky, clean.(For now)

yup, by all means appeal it. against the council you have a poor chance in my opinion!

i got done for the same thing a few months ago - it was an empty street on a sunday and a stretch of bus lane lasting approximately 50 yards!!

I thought(I'll have to check),you could drive down them on a Sunday??

I was in the bus lane, for all of 5 seconds.(Just to go around, the stationary car.)

As I said (above),I HATE people who, drive down the bus lanes.I always, keep to the rules.

I'm not getting my hopes up because strictly,I did enter the lane(all be it for afew seconds.).

Good luck with the appeal

The camera just happens to be at the place where you need to nip in to the bus lane for a second.... underhand revenue raising and unjustified

Firstly, always appeal TWICE. Councils as a matter of course send out a "thanks for the offer but we're still fining you" letter to any complaint. The second time they tend to think about it a little more bettering your chances.

Secondly, a still image is very difficult to show if you were for example performing an emergency procedure to avoid someone/something... always a point to make on the first appeal and repeat on the second emphasising "would you rather I ran over the child, runaway pram etc etc"

All the best with the appeal.

BTW when I was at uni I worked at the council as a parking attendant (dum dum durrr!) so I know how councils like to work and what comments are likely to push the right buttons!

Oh and final bit of advice, keep it polite, the sods who read these appeals are right divas and grumpy old gits, threatening and being shitty will only put their back up!

Thumbs up Thanks for,your advice.

I will be polite(I always am),don't want to get their backs up.
At the end of the day,I did enter the bus lane(briefly).
In the letter it says,I can see the full footage on appeal. So I can't even say he slammed on and I swerved around him.Afew of us went, around him and you don't usually indicate, when you swerve.

I don't think I'll get away with it(not that I did that much wrong.),but I'll try and see if they are human?

For the best and reliable advise on this type of subject PM Isabel on here. She has read this post and is an authority this sort of issue and will not assume what can be done regarding parking/bus lane notices.
Trust me.

Question So you think I should, just pay up?

It's annoying that,I keep out of them usually and It bugs me,to see people using them.

I was thinking if I appealed,they'd drag their heals.Making the costs,go up.

IF you win the case, there are no costs.

Just bugs me I should pay up for, being afew SECONDS in the lane and didn't hold anybody up.
