Default Question on b2 sedan windshield gaskets

I am putting together a group buy on some windows and gaskets for us here in the USA and have a couple of questions for the fine folks here at classic audi.

My 84 4000 has what seems like a one piece gasket, but some of them Ive seen (including my rear window) have metal trim pieces that push into a groove to help expand the gasket.

I was given some pricing and was told they have two gaskets available. Does anyone know the difference? Can we finally get rid of that stupid metal trim?

80/90 type B2, 81 ('78-'86) Seal windshield with trim- receptive 8526ASRS1H

Thanks!

If I'm right I think the windscreen seal without the metal trim was fitted to the Sporty versions and the quattros. The metal trim version was used in the lower species models. I could be wrong of course but that is certainly the case on my cars, my quattro and sport are one piece items and my 2 door 1600cc has the extra insert.

Thanks Steve..

If you have a free second could you post a pic of the single piece gasket and the gasket with trim in it?

It would be much appreciative!

Haha!
Ok, this is the single piece item which IS ALSO on the two door!! This one is the same as my Sport and the quattro. It's my GLE that has the trim insert in it!!

CC

Sport and quattro

This is a library shot of the same type fitted to my GLE, you can just see the metal insert.

Hope it helps

That helps so much steve!

That single piece is the same as my 4k.. See the pic..

I guess I really just need to hunt down a good pic of the one with the insert as neither of my cars have it.

No problem, sorry I haven't got a close up of the insert version, mines in bits at the moment.

what do you want with the picture of the one with the metal in it? Which is actually some sort of plastic crap on the cars from 1980 and up, the older models had proper chrome in them.

I've got 2 brand new gasket for the front windscreen for cars with the trim in there.
I'm converting my cars to the quattro/sport versions, but need the two rear ones still.

Thanks Quattrostyle..

I dont need nor want that style, but just wanted to get clarification as to what the company meant by "trim receptive" seal.

I believe everyone that will be ordering gaskets will need the one piece.. And if theres one person who wants to keep his car original, he will have the trim pieces and only needs the gasket.

allright. But this groupbuy eh, how does it work?
Are the one piece seals still available somewhere or are you getting a batch made?

They are still made by a company in Germany.

We are getting a small discount but that's with shipping directly the to USA.

The guy informed me all glass and seals are brand new.

Here's the link to the urQ/CGT page. They have an 90-80 page too
