Rallye Sunseeker 2012

It’s that time of year again! The opening round of the Bristish Rally Championship is on the Saturday 25th February 2012 in the area around Bournemouth and Poole in Dorset.

Once again we have been invited to do demonstration runs through the main spectator stage at Somerley Park near Ringwood at lunchtime between the running of the stage proper (morning and afternoon).

At the moment we have the same crew as last year, myself, Derek, Simmo, Ray and AM.

If anyone would like to join in the demonstration runs, please let me know asap. The stage is mostly gravel, the car will need to be “rally type”, set up to cope with an off road stage and you will require FIA/MSA approved helmet and racing overalls. The cars will need to pass a “cursory” scrutineering inspection before being able to participate.

Alternatively, and perhaps more likely, would anyone like to come along to spectate and display their car? We have a display stand in the Car Club area of the Motorfair. There is a charge for entry of £12.50 per car, but that is half the price of the normal entry to the event! It doesn’t need to be a quattro, we can make it a Classic Audi stand. Good facilites and amusements are provided.

Motor Fair at Somerley Park in 2012 returns to its traditional location in the Upper Park ( sorry about 2011 , but that location was dictated by work on the estate!) and as Malcolm Neil – doyen of Chatsworth & Cornbury has now joined the Sunseeker team we can promise you a bigger and better show than ever before. Including simulator, demos of classic rally cars ( including Lancia, Audi & 6R4), a novel motorsport competition, catering, one-make car club shows, commentary, stalls and much more.

As was the case last year, this clashes with Race Retro at Stoneleigh Park, but it does provide a southern alternative for some quattro rally action.

I wouldn't be up for the demo stage run, but would be interested in coming down with my rs2 and having it on the stand.

A great event that I have been attending for almost 10 years. Will be there in Feb, if the B1 is ready I'd like to put it on the stand, welding permitting...

We've had a lovely couple of years down at Sunseeker, it's well worth a visit.

Stage wise Tim, can you do a bit of a 'recce' again? I hope they've filled in some of the trenches we left last year!

Great news guys, a good selection of cars already .

Yes Ian, I'll do what I can, but it won't be until nearer the time.
I imagine it will be similar to last year, but Malcolm's original description of this years course did say it was a similar route and 40% tarmac. So I wonder if they have surfaced that rough uphill section. I'm only guessing at the moment though.

Hi Tim

Had no idea such a thing was on in this part of the world, as I'm now only in Southampton I'm well up for it. I'd love to think my quattro's roadworthy and paid for by then, but that's a lot of work to finish doing AND paying for in just 7 week!

Quattro or no I'm up for coming along with the wife and my daughter (who'll be 7 months on that very day!)
