After market central locking

My 90 quattro does not have central locking. I have seen a couple of kits on ebay around the £20 mark to retro fit to the car. Has anyone had any experience with these kits good or bad or should I be looking at spending more and going for car alarm with central locking?

years ago i fitted one to my quattro with no problems (it wasn't actually a central locking as a remote actuator which worked the central locking via a rod attached too the central locking pump- but the principals the same!).
However, if you can afford it surely a full alarm would be a better option?

Even if you go with the alarm you'll probably need to change the actuators.

Maplins do a good five-wire solenoid actuator - £9.99 per door.

Converted mine to remote central locking, with alarm, immobiliser and remote start (not used it this year...)

Easy to fit, all I did was replace the drivers switch with another vacumn solenoid (from a VW Jetta I think) I had lying around and stitch the locking unit into the wires and it all seemed to work.

Only problem is that I went for the one with fake VAG 3 button flip keys: the hinge and key connection is a bit loose now after a year of every day driving....

And the instructions are in Chi-nglish so a bit of a headache.

Otherwise spot on.
