Default 4WD estate options.....?

Maybe it's just me being narrow minded but I'm buggered if I can find anything decent.

Budget around £2.5k, can stretch a little more for the right car.

Do like the Passat V6 4Motion, and the other obvious choice is an A4 quattro avant but they seem to be like hens teeth finding one that ain't been to Jupiter and back.
Not fussed on diesel or petrol, am a petrolhead at heart so driving a tractor doesn't really add any extra value and they seem to hold their 2nd prices better anyway.

not too old (1998-2002)

Is there anything else out there worth looking at other than VAG?

Don't want Jap as they just haven't sorted out doing interiors yet!

must admit I love my passat it might just be a fwd but find they are good fun, I hated my a4 when I had it even tho they are supposed to be on the same floorpan near enough.

My missus has a Passat V6 4 motion as her daily and it is a superb drive.
Bags of torque and not that bad on fuel unless booting it.
Spec is superb for what it is, and it's because of driving hers, it's made me sway towards one for myself.
Van off the road and no longer have a daily atm and driving a 1972 bimmer to work for the daily commute might be fun, but it's not ideal and I need something which will go up farm lanes, get 2 dogs in and be comfy for long drives, and not look out of place when going for business meetings.

2.5 diesels are more expensive when things go wrong, and just don't like diesels!
