Default anyone fitted a Weber carb to a 5pot?

I'm sure some of you have so I have a question:

My local garage have said the one I have (which came from a 1.9 5 pot) has the throttle body on the other side and different gauge hoses to the Pierberg that's on there, does this sound likely? Do you need to buy some sort of conversion kit in order for the Weber to fit? Sorry to seem hopeless, but mechanically I am and assumed it'd be a straight forward bolt-on job...

They reckon 3 - 4 hours labour to re-jig what's there to fit which seem ok to me?

Cheers,
nick

Hi Nick, this is a job i did many years ago on my old gt5s, cant remember the specifics but it wasnt a straight bolt on swapover for me as i had issues with the insulator block that the carb sits on amongst others.
I did eventually fit the weber and i never had any real problems afterwards so it can be done.
3 to 4 hours sounds a little long to me even being lazy at fitting it...
I know you may have some issues with the water heated auto choke which in my case i swapped to electric operation from a different weber (think it was one for a ford).
If you get stuck id be glad to have a look and see what i think, im located in Dudley so not far from you.

As an aside, if you need parts for these cars you can get quite a few spares from a small independent ive used for years which isnt too far from you at Colley Gate ( back end of haelsowen) called PW Europarts (no connection to Eurocarparts) they do all sorts of audi/vw spares and keep a lot of stuff in stock.
Ask for Peter, Frank or Jim and theyll be able to help you if you get stuck for bits.

Hope this helps.

Thanks ever so for the advice fella. If nothing else the fact you remember it wasn't a straight bolt on job helps! I guess the thing is the guys I take the car to are around the corner and are decent chaps so I think I might just have to entrust it to them and hope for the best. I'd be tempted to give it a go myself but aren't the most mechanically minded of people and would have to do it on the road in front of the house which doesn't really appeal!

Cheers for the heads up on the autochoke too. I think mines currently a little dickey (see previous weird cold idling thread!) but hopefully the weber'll help. And I'll look up those guys in case I need some parts. Always good to know about these little gems

Sorta sorted.

The Weber is on and functioning thanks to my local mechanic. Proper tune up and it runs a treat. The auto choke is the only stumbling block as it was running around 3k rpm from cold settling down to a decent 800 once warm. They're checking the choke out with instructions to stick a manual one on if it's more likely to work (which it obviously will cos it doesn't involve alchemy!).

It's still with them as I've been using other cars of late and they're happy to look after it until I'm ready to collect! All being well I'll be bringing the old girl along to the next breakfast club.

Just the interior to sort now really
