Default Dual Mass Flywheel convesions...?

any opinions of converting back to standard/single mass?

its a work van, iveco daily, so vibration into the cabin isn't a problem really, i could live with that. i just don't fancy forking out at least £500 + labour every time the thing goes down the tubes.

the van has only done 60K miles which is why i have disregarded it until now. i know of guys who have done 600K miles in 4 years, in the same vans, and they have not mentioned having had problems as yet..

i am getting the right symptoms though, vibration which is not related to road speed/more like at lower revs, have checked the prop. shaft and universal joints and they are sound, clutch is 'interesting' at times - kangaroo like. all the tyres are balanced, engine mounts are good as are body mounts (its a ladder frame chassis with a body sitting on top) no vibration from the engine with the clutch depressed, no boost leaks, i'm presuming fuel supply is ok, all new filters etc. (its all bosch stuff, pumps etc.) 'clunking/clanging' type of noise when using the clutch sometimes.

there is supposedly a convesion kit out there somewhere, i just wondered if anyone has done a conversion on anything else..?

thanks very much!

You'll have issues with clutch engagement due to offset of a dual mass. They are a thicker unit and changing them can be problematic in itself. Your better asking on an Iveco Van forum really if you want a specific answer...

Thrust bearing for clutch pressure plate? Sounds like it could be the suspect to me...

yep, i will put it up on the 'one and only' iveco forum but i doubt i'll get an answer for a month or so..

thrust bearing eh.? thanks for the advice.. could that cause a steady mind numbing vibration when cruising at 2k revs.?

i had also wondered about some kind of misfire...? a bit ironic...given my username. no diesel making it into the sump or anything so i was thinking injectors maybe.

i aint dogging and carting children around like you..

i do think the t5 is one of the best looking vans ever made though. would like one of them next maybe...just need to shrink all my machinery..or get a trailer...

i know the later transits have a DMF, and my friend has converted a few to the "normal" flywheel by using kits made from the old DI transit engines , is the iveco running the ford engine?

i don't know what box is in it, i'll try to find out. i don't know yet how much ford, fiat or iveco stuff is on the van

from what i've read there are 2 kits avaliable,

-a single mass flywheel and dampened disc kit.

and

-the original dual mass flywheel and rigid disc kit.

i presume flywheel offset will have been addressed in manufacture of the replacement single mass flywheel kit.

neither are cheap...though i might be 'barking up the wrong tree' anyway as puglife suggested.

only one way to find out! pull the gearbox out.. might be worth having iveco diagnose it first, i don't know.
