Default Dash stopped working

Hi all, I got my audi coupe back from the garage today and the temp guage, petrol and rev counter are dead. The speedo is intermittent and the little clock works fine. Also, my indicators don't work and the battery light is on.

Hazards work fine as do headlights (though they have broken an adjuster) but very strange is that when I put the main beam on, the radio comes on???

This is either the car being very grumpy with me for putting him away over winter or something has gone seriously wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't really fancy taking it back to the garage.

The car is a 1985 1.8 ds engine.

They changed the rocker cover, gasket etc. They pressure washed it cause there was loads of oil on the engine.

Did they do it,while the engine was running?

Strangely enough, I was thinking a swamped fuse box. I take it it's in the same place, left side, just in front/below the windscreen/scuttle?

Problem is when I rang them to explain the problem, they said that they had done work in the engine bay and nowhere near the electrics. The car has cost be £275 already this week and if they won't take responsibility for it I don't know how much more I can keep paying out! Was hoping it might be a cheap fix ie fuses or relays etc

Try and get an air line and blow the water from the fuse/relay compartment top (in the engine bay) and bottom (inside the car) then spray some WD40 around the same places.

Thanks for the replys all. I shall try and concentrate on the fuse box tomorrow. Would this problem also cause the radio to come on when main beam is put on though? Is it all linked to the electrics playing silly buggers?

Take a look inside the fuse box, make a note of everything, relay locations. look for water.

Assuming it is swamped, if it was me, i would lift out the fuse box relay plate. I think it's just 2 screws.
unplug the relays, fuses.
and try and dry it. Hair drier only.
